The D.E.M. plugin is broken down into two basic properties:
  1. Filename
  2. Vertical Scale

The filename property is simply the name of the D.E.M. file containing the digital elevation data. Clicking on this button brings up a file browse dialog, from which you can select the filename. Currently this plugin only supports two file types: 1) *.dem and 2) *.tgd.  The latter is an internal proprietary format to GeoFrac2000. These files are usually generated by the utilities found in the SDK. They basically convert SDTS files into GeoFrac2000 readable format. This was done primarily because USGS GeoData converted all of their DEM into this format. Rather than right a plugin for each specific format, utilities will be provided to convert the data into *.tgd format.

The vertical scale property, is just that, a vertical scale factor to apply to each height value. This was done because some datum yield almost flat planes and without a vertical scale, there is no detail. A value of 1 yields the exact values found in the file. I find that values between 5 and 10 create the best results.
